The appearance of the Mind could explain the disappearance of the Neanderthals.
There is evidence that around 30,000 years ago our cousins, the Neanderthals, vanished. There is also the evidence that our ancestors who lived in the same period, in the same areas, were well advanced in the development of their Minds.
The physical development of the Neanderthals was faster and more complete than that of our ancestors. The Neanderthals, in fact, reached adulthood earlier, at around fifteen years of age.
It also appears that our cousins never developed the excessive growth of their prefrontal cortices, in fact the frontal part of the skull, or the forehead, in which the prefrontal cortex is situated, is less prominent in the Neanderthals than in our own ancestors.
The Neanderthal, by being more mature and having a prefrontal cortex that was better integrated with the rest of their brain, never developed the Mind with its speculation, improvisation, adventurousness and the Mind inspired aggressiveness. Our ancestors who were more neotenous, aggressive, devious, competitive, opportunistic and inventive could easily have eliminated the Neanderthals in the rapidly changing conditions of the time.
He might also have killed the less aggressive Neanderthal purely because he found it an exciting game of chase consistent with his superiority complex.
Our Mind's beliefs transformed man into the only animal who practices genocide.
