WHY HAVING OTHER WEBSITES LINK TO YOUR SITE IS SO IMPORTANT
Your website may receive visitors from search engines,
such as
Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo,
etc. There are things
you can do to increase the number of visitors your website receives
from search engines, such as improving your website's "link
popularity" -- the number of other websites that have links
to your website. Search engines use various factors to determine
how high your site will rank in their results. Link popularity
is an important factor for many search engines, particularly the
top ones.
To find out the number of sites that link to yours, do a search on Alta Vista with the search string: "link:myURL.com." (Another way to determine how many sites link to a particular site is to install and use Alexa.) [Both of those websites are defunct. Instead, try a general search for this service.]
Improving the link popularity of your site is one of the most effective ways to increase the number of visitors to your site. For this reason, a number of Link Exchange Systems, Link Exchanges and Link Generators have been created. (By the way, posting your link to classified advertisement sites or Free-for-All pages such as FFA Net will not improve the link popularity of your site from the perspective of search engines.)
Another reason for having many links to your site is that the links themselves will bring visitors to your site.
Creating reciprocal links is based on, "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" -- you link to my site and I'll link to yours.
HOW TO APPLY THE RECIPROCAL LINKS STRATEGY TO DRAMATICALLY INCREASE TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE!
There are two basic ways to promote your website:
1. You send messages "out there" to places like classified
ads sites, FFA pages, opt-in lists, message boards, newsgroups,
etc. with the hope that people will read these messages and, as
a result, visit your website. You could call this "push"
marketing. You send out messages to "push" people to
your website. An important characteristic of practically all such
"push" messages is that they quickly disappear. If you
don't continue blasting out your marketing messages every day
or week, the visitors stop coming. For programs you can use to
drive traffic to your website, see Link/Traffic
Generators. (Some of these programs also create links to your
site.)
2. You do things to your website that result in more people visiting your site as a result of search engine traffic and from clicking on links to your site on other websites. You could call this "pull" marketing. You do things to your website to "pull" people to it. Most of these things you do to your website to "pull" in visitors tend to have a lasting and cumulative effect. They're not fleeting and ephemeral like most of the advertising messages "blasted to millions" every day by most Internet marketers. Once you've implemented one or more "systems" on your website, that more or less automatically increase the number of links to your site, the number of visitors your site receives will continue to grow.
If there are more links from other sites to yours, then your search engine rankings tend to improve and you get more visitors from them. And, of course, you also get more visitors from the links themselves. Consider these four sites:
Date: 10/17/00 | Alexa count of links-in | Alexa traffic ranking |
BuildFreedom | links-in: 1,034 | traffic ranking: #118,799 |
BigBooster | links-in: 634 | traffic ranking: #100,759 |
LinksToYou.com | links-in: 7,443 | traffic ranking: #33,981 |
Libertarian Party | links-in: 9,242 | traffic ranking: #16,342 |
(The lower the traffic ranking #, the higher the traffic.) In general, the more links to a website, the higher its search engine rankings, and the more traffic it gets from both the search engines and from the links.
There are a number of ways to increase the number of links to your website. The first way is to exchange reciprocal links with Link Exchanges. This is the easiest way. We invite you to exchange links with us.
A second way is to join one or more of the Link Exchange Systems. The way they basically work is that each member loads the links of all the other members to his or her own website. In general, this means that every member in the system links to every other member in the system. Periodically, each member gets a new set of links and loads them to his or her site. As the number of members in the system grows, so do the links-to of each member website. You can join as many of these Link Exchange Systems as you like. The beauty of these systems is that in one fell swoop you create hundreds or even thousands (in the case of LinkstoYou) links to your website. LinkTopper, although it currently (9/27/00) provides few links-in, is very important because of the quality links-out to search engines it provides -- which they like!
A third way to increase the number of links to your website is to implement your own Reciprocal Link System. You can use one of the Link Exchange Software systems to do so. (We developed our own custom system.) Implementing your own Reciprocal Link System is a slower method and requires more work than the "second way" above, however it will most likely yield more appropriate (higher quality) links to your website.
A fourth way is by joining one or more Link/Traffic Generators.
And, don't forget search engine submission.
Here's wishing you a proliferation of links, an elevation of search engine rankings, an inundation of traffic, and an abundance of sales!
