IRS Abuse Reports

IRS Abuse Report #526

My mother worked as a cocktail waitress in Atlantic City when the casinos first opened. At that time there was no set amount that waitress' had to claim for taxes, and the casino claimed for her. My mother only worked in the casinos for four years. In 1988, my mother was informed that she owed $20,000 for unclaimed taxes at the casinos. She was a single mother waiting tables to pay for two kids. Since that day the IRS has been unwilling to set up a payment plan or even discuss the possibility that she is not to blame. In the four years that she worked for the casino, we lived in a small apartment and had no extra money-so where did this $20,000 go. Since 1988, her debt has grown to over $30,000, as she made several attempts to set up a payment plan but was laughed at for the amount of money she offered to pay monthly. She is now unable to own a car, house, or even pay rent since her wages are garnished. This debt, that the IRS held onto for six years is killing my mother. She is forced to live at home with her father because she has no money, and began drinking heavily in 1990. If this debt doesn't kill her, the interest surely will.

1976 had a house fire and filed for a loss on my taxes, from that point on I received questionnaires from the IRS every 6 MO or so asking if I had a casualty or theft loss. I copied them each time with the fire report and insurance papers and Photos and newspaper articles, but to no avail, they would ask for the same info again and again. I really was sick of the whole mess and in 1980 filed exempt status and started to ignore them (not a smart thing to do) They have made my life miserable since then. I have filed all my back taxes and they are still trying to get blood out of a rock. In 1997 I was unemployed and really having a hard time when they came to my apt. and seized the last $250 in my checking account and then took my truck, the only vehicle that I had to get a job with. So they hobbled me. What is the sense in that! I will be current with them this year, but not before getting two divorces and losing my job with all the problems with payroll office. They told me I was on the IRS enemy's list and they would not deal with me, only follow the steps that they have to but would never settle with me. This was in my house with an attorney present; they would never put that on paper though.

I am just sick. I have read all the IRS Abuse Reports. If I could put what I feel about what I have read into words it would be "Sickening". I knew the IRS was bad. Just did not know how Bad. Now I DO! We need to stand-up for Justices and for the American Citizens. I cried when I read the reports. I thought that is why we fought for are independence from England. We need to Audit the IRS and find out where the 1.4 Trillion when too. We all could be in the place that these hard working people are in.
