As a parent of two children of almost schoolgoing age, I am alarmed at the number of parents I know personally who have had teachers and school principals "strongly recommend" that their children go on Ritalin. In almost every case these are bright, outgoing kids. High spirited, yes, but certainly not clinically hyperactive - until they started taking the drug that is. When these parents became alarmed at the drone-like beings their kids had become and tried to wean them off, then the problems began - the cycle of dependence you refer to in your last issue.

I was advised to put both of my sons on ritalin due to behavioral problems. I refused and suggested that perhaps they were not sufficiently challenged to keep them from disrupting classes. Both were asked to leave the school (private, with a top reputation) prior to 7th grade. Both took the SAT test in the Duke T.I.P. program in the next year. The 1st scored 1210, then 3 years later the 2nd scored 1050. Ritalin would have eased the school's teaching challenge but hampered the development of the gifted students.

The situation with Ritalin is quite complex. The drug cartel is supported by the gov't and the gov't run schools in conjunction with the psychologist/psychiatrist cartel - also gov't supported - push these drugs on parents by deception and force. Many parents are told that if their children don't take Ritalin they will be expelled from school or taken from them and put in foster homes. Affluent parents, if informed enough to know that ADD is a huge scam and that no child should be drugged, can counter these tactics by hiring counsel and finding shelter in private or homeschool, but two wage earner families or those already on welfare are thus coerced into drugging their children.

The facts are that Ritalin is harmful, is being forced on unsuspecting parents and children not for their benefit but for control, and the drug cartel has gov't agents (public school administrators) doing the pushing. I hope the plaintiffs bankrupt the bastard.
