Our lives have been ruined by the IRS. We have been accused of not filing income taxes and being govt. protesters. The IRS wants nearly $200,000 and will not tell us why. We did not make even close to what they say we owe. They levied our salaries, put liens on our property and have demanded we pay them over $800/mo. for the rest of our lives, We do not make enough money to do this. I have two choices: suicide or fleeing the country. We have three children so leaving is definitely difficult. There is no point to working anymore. Why is this happening? We have committed no crime, yet the IRS has definitely threatened jail. No one believes us and there is no help. If we had committed murder we would at least have an attorney. Our Congressman has not even helped as he could.

We are considered guilty. We have not had a day in court. The IRS has all our money if we do not pay them all and more of our money. I am angry and want to do something.

I have been married for 13 years and have three beautiful daughters. I work for a state agency so my income is barely enough for us to make ends meet. We have just entered into an installment agreement and I know will never be able to pay off. We also tried to get an agreement for the current taxes and they refused it. My credit is maxed out, therefore, no institution will loan us the money. My income last year alone was under 20K. How can one branch of the government have so much power? We fear for the worst but we will not give in. I will fight, literally, to the end before they destroy everything I have worked for. My only recourse now is to research and gather solid facts and information so when I do go and battle them my effort will be valiant. This is like the final straw that has destroyed my belief in the U.S. government and system. There is no fairness, not for the working-class, the low-income - we are the ones to bear the load for those that can and do manipulate the system to their benefit. God bless and help us all because we know the government we have entrusted so much in will not.

I hammered out an agreement to pay the IRS $400 a month for one year, while I 'reduce my standard of living.' My wife again lost her job in January of this year. I called the IRS agent and told her I needed a new more reasonable payment agreement. She scheduled an appointment for me to come in, but later cancelled it. I heard nothing further from her until I received a notice in the mail that they were proceeding to levy my income. Now my job and an upcoming promotion are in jeopardy. I have no economic future. I can't own a home, put my children through college or save for our retirement years. I have no credit. The only way I could ever come up with the money would be through a loan, which, obviously, I don't qualify for.

My point is that, although I shouldn't have fallen so far behind in my taxes, I have always tried to work with the IRS. They now say I owe them over $200,000. I am struggling to keep food in the house for my wife and two daughters. Throwing money at lawyers doesn't help. The IRS doesn't help. Some days all I can think of is blowing my brains out in front of the IRS office. Maybe that would prompt some much needed tax collection reform. I've had enough.

My employer received a Levy from the IRS. I called the phone number on the notice and told the agent that their own regulations were violated by not granting a hearing. He told me that nothing I said would dissuade him. I asked to talk to his supervisor. He said he would not allow me! I called others at that office and got similar treatment.

My husband, when married, forged my name on taxes. We divorced, he is told by courts to pay this debt of $917.00. I was eligible for earned income credit the following year as a single parent with 2 children. They seized my return for his debt with the fo rged signature. And even though he set up a payment schedule with them, he never paid one dime to them at all, never made a payment. And they threatened to take my things and garnish my wages...and with a forged signature.

I have been under a personal attack since Sept 1996, wherein, the IRS has taken may salary and personal vehicle. Within 4 weeks after stealing my car it was sold with a minimum bid of $520 even though its value at the time was over $12,000 and would have cost over $32,000 to me. When the IRS agent was confronted to show his delegation of authority order he could not present, only directing me to another office of the agency. I was reduced to driving a rental car for several months until my parents lent me one of their vehicles. When the lien against my salary went into effect I placed several hardship dependents on the form. The IRS agent changed my deductions which reduced my take home pay to virtually zero and was forced to borrow money from friends.

I have corresponded with several congressman and senators, most have not even acknowledge receipt of my letters. Those that do weasel out of their responsibilities by referring my questions and concerns directly to the IRS for response. What a security system, send the chickens to the foxes den for support.

I own and operate a small accounting firm. As I write this, I have been on hold with the Ogden, UT service center for 1.25 hours. In the past two years, the degree of incompetence at IRS has been astounding. I am dealing with a notice tonight for a client, that is a demand for his 3rd Qtr '96 941 return (Federal Payroll Tax Report). I have in my nicotine-stained fingers, the signed file copy of the form we submitted back in October 1996. The client called me tonight, panic stricken, because of the abusive letter he got from IRS that threatens to imprison him if he does not file the required forms. The tone of this letter is amazingly nasty and highly abusive.

The Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division (IRS - CID), Houston District, is truly a place where the lunatics are running the asylum. The managers rule by psychological warfare and intimidation. So pervasive is this method, that a special agent in the Houston District killed himself because of it, and the other employees did not dare to speak out about it.

I have seen first hand the way that IRS - CID management is willing to lie to achieve their goals. Management has turned Civil Service, into Self Service. I have seen how GS 13 special agents are promoted to GS 14, and sent to Washington in their last years of semi-retirement, so that their pension is based on a grossly inflated high three. These individuals contribute absolutely nothing, while padding their retirement package.

I have seen how IRS - CID employees learn quickly that integrity is not a luxury you can possess, if you want to survive in the Houston, District. The only quality a employee needs to survive, is blind loyalty to the IRS - CID agenda. Houston District IRS - CID special agents MUST be willing to lie, and participate in internal lynchings of others who refuse to go along with this corrupt program.

IRS - CID Management in the Houston District are blind to the fact that they are as criminal as the people they lamely attempt to jail for lying on their tax returns. It seems individuals of such questionable character are the only ones willing to enforce a unfair, out of date, and unnecessarily complex tax system. IRS employees are nearly completely devoid of integrity, because they must enforce a tax system which lacks integrity.

The IRS has got to be stopped!!!!!

Recently I received a phone call from the IRS demanding that I pay taxes of approximately $4700. I had no idea what they were referring to and asked for returns that showed that I owed the money. After a week I had not received any paper work so I called the agent and asked when I would receive the documents that he told me he would send. He told me that he would fax them but I had to start paying now or he would attach my wages. I told him that until I had some proof that I owed taxes I wouldn't pay anything. That afternoon I received a fax of a form demanding payment and pages of questions about my personal finances and property. I again called the agent and told him that I needed copies of the returns that showed that I owed the money not just a form demanding it. He told me that would take time and demanded that I pay the taxes immediately or my wages would be attached the next week. I again told him that I would not pay without proof that I owed the money.

Guess what folks. Without any proof my wages were attached. The IRS was going to allow me to keep a whopping $253 a week to live on. That's not much when you have two kids. Needless to say I had to come up with the money. I had to borrow money to pay taxes that I didn't owe. By the way, I never did receive tax returns.

I love this country, but the IRS is bent on destroying taxpayers with no regard for human rights.

The IRS own errors and delays were responsible for creating a terrible tax audit and inaccurate tax assessment.......(O.J.'s murder trial was on for one and a half years)....My audit was on for 9 (nine) years. While focusing my attention on reducing the erroneous tax assessment -- I was buried with interest.

The IRS often terrorize tax advisers by threatening to audit all their clients, bar them from practicing and a host of other frightening possibilities. As a result, some tax advisers will actually incriminate you before they risk an IRS vendetta.

The IRS put a LIEN/LEVY on my home which was illegal, because my case was still in appeals. How could they do this?

The IRS determined that I owed $10k for tax year 1992. I asked for detail on this amount, and was refused. When I pressed, in writing, the only response I got basically told me to put up AND shut up. I apparently don't have the right to know where the IRS' figures come from, and I don't have the right to challenge them. When it came down to a lien and levy, I was called into the Jax, FL office, where I spoke to an officer Curry and her supervisor. I tape recorded the meeting (yes, I provided written notification before I did so, even though title 26 only requires 'advance notification', not '10 days written notification' as IRS collections flyers indicate) and had a CPA present.

I, as others have done, asked to see the agents' delegations of authority. The agents responded that they didn't have to show ANYTHING to me, declared the interview over, and stated that enforcement would begin (I have a transcript of the meeting should anyone be interested). Again, in violation of the law, a levy against my salary was issued the same day. I was allowed $566 a month to survive. Nothing else has been seized, but it might as well have been. The money is still being siphoned, to the point that I 'visited' a mental hospital for a month. I am working with a CPA to get several past years straightened out, but that's the only way I can find to communicate with these monsters. I would like a straight answer from the IRS for once. I read on this site that there is a decent, fair, IRS district director somewhere in this country. Sorry, but I don't believe it. Such an individual would be eaten by the rest of the sharks that run the organization.

Your intentions are commendable. I myself have numerous stories about IRS abuse, including IRS's flagrant and unlawful refusal to comply with the Freedom of Information Act. I have evidence of falsification of evidence by IRS and DOJ officials, of back-dating of notices of deficiency by IRS employees, of computer fraud committed by IRS against myself and many others.

I am a high school teacher of government and economics; a former USAF pilot with a combat tour (1 year) in Vietnam.

For over 15 years the IRS has been holding a lien on me for a tax debt that began as a mistake and eventually was over $100K. My lawyer, Hayes Young, Shestack & Young, 212 766 1200, did a bankruptcy which was supposed to discharge the IRS debts, but they refuse to vacate the lien they hold on me. This, combined with the State of New York's Department of Taxation and Finance taking their lead from the IRS, has me with no credit rating. I am unable to replace my defunct 1983 Olds, so I have no car. I am unable to try to get mortgage for a house or a coop or condominium.

They have, in the past, levied my pay, garnisheed it and seized my pay and my checking accounts, costing me large fees to have these reinstated.

This is the best news we've heard of in a long time!!

In 1991 my husband and his ex-wife filed taxes using 1040-short form. Because she did not include several expenses, they were left with a large debt. ( In 1989 they owed 872.00 that she was paying on installments of $50.00 monthly.) When the '89 debt was paid her payments began applying to '91. She paid for about six months and then stopped. When my husband and I filed separately in 1993, half of my return was seized for the 1991 debt that my husband and his ex-wife owed! This occurred again in 1994 and in 1995.

In 1996 the IRS told me that I owed back taxes for 1990 and that I had never filed a return for that year. My taxes were done by a CPA due to the business expenses I had that year. That same tax return was handed to a banker for and expense loan in 1991. How could I give him my taxes if I hadn't filed them?

The IRS sent a refund check for 50% of my 'married filing separate' 1995 refund and applied the remaining amount to my husband and his ex-wife's 1991 debt. Then in October of 1996 we received a letter stating that my refund was being held because I owed for 1990. Then they sent a letter to my husband saying the entire amount of my personal refund was being applied to his 1991 tax debt. I called to find out about this and they would tell me nothing, due to the fact my name was not on his tax return. We then received a letter saying 1991 still had $799.00 owing. Numerous phone calls have ended in confusing information, too many people in on the conversation, unanswered questions, CONFLICTING information, and rude comments. I asked one employee why I should be responsible for my husband and his ex-wife's debts. She stated, "You should have done a credit check before you married him." I asked to speak to her supervisor and was told "My supervisor doesn't want to talk to you. " she then hung up on me. There is no way to call back without an entire day on the phone, they cannot put two pieces of paper together. My ex-husband even managed to file two returns for the same year, leaving me out to dry. This whole mess has caused many problems in our lives. The IRS is an illegal agency and needs to be rid of. What would happen if everyone didn't work for one day? What would the American public gain? Everything, including freedom from these people!

Too many families in Hawaii are being harassed and driven into the streets by the IRS - I have seen people driven to the brink of insanity and destitution because of the strong arm tactics.

I personally was hit with a $1 million + lien, levy, threats, the whole routine. Presently, I am working with several families whose paychecks have been snatched, they have children to feed, and the usual obligations and are unable to meet them because the IRS TAKES ALL THEIR MONEY. I have been the witness to too many people being devastated by the financial ruin the IRS heaps on them.

About five years ago, my marriage broke up, friendly, for what it's worth. Being the primary wage earner, I took it upon myself to maintain the majority of our bills, as she was unable to do so. Coupled with that, I was paying a federal and state tax, that was killing me, forcing me to borrow money, just to pay these raping illegal direct tax on my labor. Well, it was only a matter of time, that my savings were depleted, my retirement, I lost our home, I lost two (2) pieces of dirt that I was hoping to have for retirement purposes, I was homeless, and lived in my office for 4 months without kitchen or shower, Pretty humiliating, but that was the result.

Hey, I am flat broke. I can't afford insurance, and am about to lose my job. I am so depressed, stressed out, because I can not learn the legal system fast enough to counter these thieves. The courts have gone astray, and I have nothing to go on, but case after case being LOST. I fear I will end up in PRISON and for what?

Our congressmen/women do not care. I have sent info. to two without a peep of a response from them.

I want to know, while I still have a few resources, and haven't gone completely crazy, what can I do. There must be blame somewhere, someone has to be responsible that I can at least seek justice.

My Mother, now 80 yrs old in a nursing home, was a diligent taxpaying citizen all her life. The tax return she filed for 1993 was audited in 1997 and found to have numerous math problems, plus she used the wrong tax table. She owed an additional $1,200 but was fined an extra $5,014. in penalties plus "statutory interest" for a grand total of $8,700! The IRS sent notices to an old address, even though her recent tax returns had the correct address. They would not talk to me about her case until they received papers of showing I had power of attorney. I sent them twice through the mail. They insisted the paperwork was not received. Finally, they gave me a FAX number to send it. Then I had a receipt. All this time, the interest was mounting. They don't care that my Mother was obviously incapacitated and incompetent to complete such complex returns. She has been fined all this money for being ill and unable to understand. She needs this money for her care.

I am sending the check because I was told by Miss Adams of the IRS that resistance was not only useless but also costly. She said even though she had the power to rescind the penalty, she was not going to do it. Meanwhile, interest is mounting.
