TERRA LIBRA TERRITORIES
As Founder of Build Freedom, I hereby authorize anyone anywhere in the world to declare any property they own a "Build Freedom Territory," subject only to the condition that as far as practically possible, they will apply the Build Freedom Code in said territory. You may name your property or territory as you wish. You may include the words "Build Freedom" in the name of your property. You are free to display or not to display the name of your territory. If you wish you may inform me of the above declaration, but there is no need to do so.
Anyone is free to start a Build Freedom Title Company. Such a Title Company could issue Titles that guarantee to the best knowledge of the Title Company that the property or territory is owned by the named owner, and that the owner assumes responsibility that the Code of Build Freedom be applied on such property or in such territory. Eventually there could be many Build Freedom Title Companies.
From a Build Freedomn perspective, the owner of a Build Freedom Territory is the Sovereign of that territory and has sole jurisdiction over that territory.
For practical purposes, Build Freedom Territories may remain parts of other countries. Initially, declaring your property a Build Freedom Territory will have only symbolic and psychological value. However, as more and more parts of the world become Build Freedom Territories, the value of a property or territory being Build Freedomn will become practical.
From a territorial perspective, the sum total of Build Freedom Territories constitute Build Freedom. Just like Americans can travel and live outside the U.S.A., Build Freedomns can travel and live outside Build Freedom territories.
At the same time, Build Freedom remains primarily an information-based country. For those familiar with the concept of "cyberspace" this will be relatively easy to grasp. The users of Internet and other computer networks, together with the information in these networks, constitute cyberspace. Though Build Freedom has now acquired territoriality, it is best understood as a kind of cyberspace.
Response to Build Freedom
Dr. Howard Lazarus Long from California wrote me as follows:
WOW! Your Build Freedom concept is a mind-blower... and a winner whose time is NOW! The info you sent brought the greatest excitement about the possibility of freedom in my lifetime I've ever known. I'd become resigned to the realization that my #2 goal, freedom in my lifetime, could not happen. My #1 goal is the attainment and maintenance of optimum health, to which our mutual friend T.C. Fry has contributed greatly. I'd come to the reluctant conclusion that there were only two chances for a rebirth of freedom in America: 1) a drastic modification of our government (so it's again limited by the Constitution, Objectivist pro-freedom Leaders, etc.), which seems less likely each day, or 2) a bloody revolution, which would probably be followed by a dictatorship worse than the present system, followed by a second bloody revolution that might produce a freedom-oriented government. I wouldn't likely live thru those times!
Thru Build Freedom you're providing an exciting third possibility: Be free now, working within and around our present oppressive government, leaving it to collapse of its own weight while we simultaneously create alternative systems that'll be in place to replace those of the tyrannical government when it withers and dies as in the USSR. Fascinating stuff!
Possibilities for the present government expanding our freedom are presently non-existent. According to Congressman Ron Paul (9/15/93 Survival Report), President Clinton and her husband are planning to merge FBI, CIA, BATF, OSHA, IRS, DEA, FDA into one "Directorate of Central Law Enforcement" headed by attorney general Janet Reno, of Waco infamy. That police agency will make the KGB and SS look like the Girl Scouts. The good news being, as you've stated, that the worse the government becomes, the more intelligent folks will wake up and shift into the free economy of Build Freedom.

Living Free now, Financial Independence, Individual Sovereignty, Natural Hygiene, Un-Taxing Yourself, Fully Informed Jury Action, Multi-National Citizenship, Offshore Banking, Objectivism, Laissez-Faire Capitalism, Libertarianism, even Life Extension and Immortality. You've done an amazing job tying all this together!!
Thru my first reading of the info, I became consistently more excited with each page, generating all sorts of possibilities, comments, and questions. Now, armed with pages of ideas you've helped me generate I'm ready to introduce Build Freedom to friends, neighbors, colleagues, acquaintances, client/patients and strangers! Perhaps the apathy and apparent lack of interest by most Americans in the values of freedom, integrity and responsibility can be overcome by a power incentive: money might do it. We'll see!
By the way, multi-level marketing (Amway, Pro-Dentec, etc.) has never appealed to me and I've lost a few 'friends' - two dentists included - due to my refusal to join them in these programs. Selling freedom has been one of my three professions since the early 70's anyhow and I suspect I'd have greater success if I get paid for it! My chief profession is dentistry and the other two have revolved around studying ways to obtain Optimum Health and ways to obtain Freedom in this lifetime.
Your advanced freedom concepts will only appeal to a small minority. The majority want security, not freedom. That's fine, I've always restricted my dealings to the freedom-loving minority anyway. (I even restrict my dental practice to the pleasant ones!) So... I want in! I'd like to become a Sponsor/Distributor and get on with this project ASAP, so here's a brief intro of me relative to the freedom movement. As only child and early perceiver that the majority ain't free I've been a lifetime Individualist of the semi-rugged variety. Discovered Ayn Rand about '60, read nearly all her stuff, subscribed to the Ayn Rand Letter and the Objectivist and still subscribe to TIA, corresponded intermittently with Nathaniel Branden, have been passive registered Libertarian since '72. My only "active" role is an occasional letter to the editors of local papers (so far they've published every letter I've sent since '72, regardless of how radical the letters be) and I try to be role model for others, answering questions only if asked. I've been a rather constant student of liberty, mostly thru audio tapes and I relisten frequently to my fairly large and growing freedomry. I do just as one of your reports says: talk freedom and liberty and live in many ways as a slave, very generously funding and feeding our worst enemy, the State. This produces great guilt feelings with every check to them. I welcome life in Build Freedom. Thank you for creating the opportunity!
Incidentally, I have only minimal goals for my involvement with Build Freedom. I'm satisfied with being your third-largest Sponsor/Distributor (those in the top two spots get too much attention and extra work piled on 'em!)
Questions and Answers
First, I'll need clarification on a pile of questions:
Q1. "Country" concept - My first reading of the intro packet filled me with incredible excitement. After a second reading I kept having nagging doubts about my ability to communicate the concept of Build Freedom as a "country" rather than as a "company." Most folks still tend to think of country as "a large piece of real estate ruled by a government" and they don't seem inclined to accept the concept of a boundary-less "information-based" group of freedom-lovers as a "country," nor do they seem eager to call an entity that looks like a "company," a group of folks organized to sell goods and services, a "country." How do you recommend answering prospective Build Freedomns' queries on that point? Should actual "citizenship" documents be awarded Distributors after signing an impressive document proclaiming their agreement with and commitment to the Code of Build Freedom? (It seems like I became owner of the lofty title of "Sponsor" by doing little more than sending Build Freedom $12. Citizenship in Build Freedom perhaps should be a prize?)
A1. There are a number of answers for folks at different levels of sophistication: 1) We're all free by nature. Just as a group of people are free to call themselves "United States of America," any group of people is also free to call themselves "Build Freedom." 2) In the not-too-distant future we'll issue citizenship documents. Just what the qualifications, price, and benefits will be, is still to be determined. I expect the documents will have a powerful symbolic and psychological effect. 3) The worldwide community of dentists could be used as an example of a worldwide "information-based country." Dentists from all over the world meet at conventions and exhibitions where they exchange information on the latest technology and developments. 4) It's necessary to distinguish between objective physical reality and word-based reality. Most people think and behave as if "USA" is objective physical reality. Juxtaposing "Build Freedom" based on a different concept of "country" may help people shift out of their fixed (statist) way of thinking. 5) Underpinning statism, at the most fundamental level, are a series of concepts. Accepting these concepts gives certain people advantages over others. For example, if you create the concepts of "King" and "subject" and get others to accept that you are "King" and they are your "subjects," then you enjoy some wonderful benefits at their expense. Merely by accepting the traditional concepts of "country" and "citizens," people place themselves at a tremendous disadvantage. Ultimately, to dump statism we have to dump our statist concepts. Libertarians like to say, "The emperor has no clothes." The advanced Build Freedomn asks, "Why do you call a naked man "emperor" (so-called)?" However, few people have the ability to question and dump their statist concepts. So we need subtle ways to get them to shift their statist concepts. Defining Build Freedom the way we do is such an attempt. (This subject is addressed in Reports #TL06, TL07, and TL07A.)
For some people, there may be semantic difficulties if Build Freedom has no territory. Now that there are Build Freedom Territories - even if nobody knows for sure where they are, how many there are, and how big they are! - the concept of Build Freedom may be much easier to explain.
It was your persistent questioning of the Build Freedom "country" concept that inspired the idea of having Build Freedom territories. Thank you. Someone in the area called "The Netherlands" by some has already declared his property to be a free territory. He has named it "Build Freedom" and declared himself "Lord of Build Freedom."
Q2. Transferring Activities to Build Freedom Economy - I still need clarification on how one "transfers their work and business activities into the Build Freedomn economy," specifically health-care providers, since those are the folks I plan to concentrate my efforts on. How do I answer their questions? Do you recommend I order/read a few more reports?
A2. One or more Pure Trusts could be used to quite legally structure a business - including a health-care practice - so more of it occurs in the free market. You may want to study the Pure Trust Package. Much of the general information in my two books The Economic Rape of America: What You Can Do About It and Wake Up America! The Dynamics of Human Power will help; specifically, information on common-law jurisdiction and our Infernal Revenue Stealers. Reports #TL16, 16A, 16B, and 16C are a must. Someone as interested as you should buy all the Build Freedom reports and packages.
Q3. Future Patron/Liberator - I'd like to become a Patron and/or a Professional Liberator eventually. I'd specialize in introducing health-care producers and those interested in optimum health to Build Freedom. I'm most familiar with these two groups due to my activities in the last quarter century. Is there any reason I should apply for Patron or Professional Liberator status now... I feel I have no particular product or service to offer to Build Freedomns presently, 'tho I am writing an owners manual for care and feeding of human mouths.
A3. From your perspective, signing on as a Patron and/or Professional Liberator may help sell your "owners manual," once it's ready to market. You may also gain some very pleasant freedom-oriented clients/patients. From my perspective, the main reason for you to sign on is that it increases the credibility of Build Freedom, makes it easier to market, and accelerates the growth of freedom - which of course benefits all of us in the long run.
Q4. Mail Drop/Pseudonym - Why do you recommend using a pseudonym as a Patron and/or Professional Liberator? Is a mail drop box necessary and why desirable? Do you recommend the same for Sponsors and Distributors? Are there risks here that I'm not aware of? Are there ways to obtain an anonymous mail drop? They all seem to require notarized signature so identity of owner is known. More reports?
A4. Think of the "government" people as a kind of Mafia. You never know when some of them might jump to the conclusion that someone is "trying to muscle in on their action." If you shop around you'll find a mailing service that skips the usual formalities - forget the national chains. I can tell you more in person.
Q5. Audio Tapes - My reading time, due to my dentist job, is packed and very limited. Do you offer any info on audio tape? That's become my main source of info input since about '80. Perhaps we need a pro-freedom audio transcription company to convert some reports to that format. I may know of an excellent one. Where do we go from there?
A5. We don't offer anything on audio tape yet. If you can organize an audio company (new or existing) to convert some of the Build Freedom reports (for example, the Introductory Package) to audio and market them, I would be very happy. You and/or the company would have to finance it. We could probably do it on a zero-royalty basis, provided Build Freedom address is included for listeners who want more information. We would add these tapes to our Catalog and also market them. This could become a very profitable venture!
Q6. Additional Reports - What additional reports do you recommend I order/read first to get going ASAP?
A6. Your best bet is probably to order all the reports. Look through them quickly to determine which may be of immediate practical benefit. Read them first. But you also need the more philosophical and theoretical knowledge. Implementing practical freedom in your life and business requires a certain intellectual and psychological orientation which most freedom-lovers lack. The more philosophical and theoretical reports will help bring about this orientation.
Q7. Commission Clarifications - When one of my Distributors sells something to his Distributor, Build Freedom gets a check, my Distributor gets a check and I get a check, yes?
- But if that Distributor (the next in line) sells something, I get no commission, yes? Commissions stop after the 2nd generation?
- Do I also get a report stating which Distributors sold what to whom, enabling me to better support and track my Distributors?
- Once on board, they're my Distributors for life?
A7. Yes to the first two questions. You don't get a sales report, but your checks come with source information, indicating how successful each of your Distributors is. Yes to the last question, above.
Q8. Job Descriptions - Once I acquire a few Distributors, then I have two jobs:
1) Motivate and support those Distributors (letters, sales materials, etc.) to: a) Motivate and support their Distributors; and b) Acquire more Distributors under their sponsorship.
2) Acquire more Distributors under my sponsorship.
A8. Your main job is to get people to order the Build Freedom Introductory Package. Your second job is to motivate your customers to become active Distributors and successful marketeers. Because you only get paid for your own sales and the sales of your Distributors, this is where you want to concentrate your efforts.
Q8A. Do I have other Build Freedom jobs?
1) For example, support Build Freedom? How? Input?
2) For example, produce reports, products for sale thru Build
Freedom? If yes, how is this done (for example, Paine's Torch will
be adding Reports, etc.) - Who decides what's offered for sale
and how decided? How's manufacturer or author paid?
A8A. 1) There is really no limit to what can and needs to be done in relation to Build Freedom. The only limitation is that we ask that the Code of Build Freedom be adhered to. We need all the support we can get. This can be done as a Patron and/or Professional Liberator as described in Report #TL02A. Just by shifting some of your economic activities into the real or true free market you support us. By launching your own "Build Freedom marketing operation" (of course, a real free-market business) you can support us tremendously. Your letter with all its questions and input constitutes valuable support.
2) You are welcome to produce reports and other products for Build Freedom to market. We can purchase inventory from you, manufacture ourselves and pay you royalty, or forward orders to you for drop shipping. Conditions and payments are decided on a case-by-case basis by our Board of Trustees.
One area that may be of interest to you is the marketing of the AIDS report. I believe this could be developed into a huge and very profitable business.
Another area could be writing and marketing a report on free-market health care.
Yet another would be to get Build Freedom marketed via newsletters. You mentioned Ron Paul's Survival Report. You could, for example place a one- or two-page advertisement (or insert) in such a pro-freedom newsletter. There are dozens of candidates. It could be done on the basis that Ron Paul is the Distributor and you are the Sponsor. This is exactly how Build Freedom's marketing started. The marginal cost for a publisher to place such an advertisement (or insert) is minimal. Because of the three-level structure the long-term income for the publisher could be considerable.
We've already mentioned the potential business of Build Freedom reports on audio tape. Another potential business is selling Build Freedom T-shirts, flags, bumper stickers, etc. Someone could organize Build Freedom conventions - the best area is probably Southern California because of its concentration of freedom-lovers.
You could also organize a Build Freedom Chapter or Action Group as described in Report #TL13. Many people need interaction with others to learn and implement Freedom Technology.
Q8B. Build Freedom's jobs are:
1) Constantly increasing the quantity and quality of products so that buyers want more and also wanna become Distributors, Yes?
2) Support Sponsors in managing and supporting their Distributors (what sort of support and help can I expect from Build Freedom as a Sponsor?)
3) Does Build Freedom have any other jobs I should be aware of?
A8B. 1) Correct.
2) Yes. At present the support we can provide is very limited. Patron and Professional Liberator Bill Roker has undertaken a support function for Southern California. You could play a similar role in Northern California. As I perceive the need, I write additional reports such as #TL30A, 30B, and 80A, which are intended to help Sponsors and Distributors become more successful.
3) Build Freedom needs to bring about the creation of alternative free-market institutions, most importantly in currency and banking.
We need to bring about education in advanced freedom. Firstly, freedom-lovers need to learn practical freedom or Freedom Technology: How to live free. Secondly, freedom-lovers need to learn that the most basic and important level of statism is conceptual and semantic. Tyrants use primarily words, and only secondarily force, to coerce their victims. The words they use, if accepted, give them power. Merely by accepting statist words/concepts and their definitions, victims relinquish their power and place themselves at a huge disadvantage. This area is covered in Reports #TL06, TL07, and TL07A.
At the other end of the spectrum, we need to bring about education in basic freedom. Considering that humans are naturally free - and it's unnatural for humans to be enslaved - and a very large portion of humanity is slave oriented (most without knowing it), a case can be made that little effective basic freedom education occurs. It is also possible that effective basic freedom education needs to be developed by advanced Freedom Technologists who have dumped their statist concepts. The non-existence formula as described in Report #TL80A (see Catalog) needs to be applied:
Build Freedom also needs to develop further products and services in areas such as increasing intelligence, developing thinking skills, emotional control, life extension, and physical or biological immortality.
Build Freedom needs to help bring about a huge increase in individual freedom, ability, health, power, wealth, etc. - resulting in a huge shift of resources from the hands of the value destroyers to the hands of the value producers.
Q9. Gummint Taxes - How do we keep all those millions of dollars flowing to us Sponsors/Distributors from feeding our enemy, the State? - 'nother report? Please lemme know if my understanding is accurate and please forgive the tiring questions. I'm just a dentist and I've never worked this sort of biz. Exciting and refreshing!
A9. Let me emphasize that Build Freedom doesn't threaten or challenge the authority of any legitimate government. I particularly emphasize that all legal taxes must be paid. Fortunately, in the USA most taxes are being paid by victims who don't know the law. So the victims only have to discover the law and find the practical means to pay only legal taxes. See Reports #TL16, TL16A, TL16B, and TL16C.
It is also advisable to use means such as Trusts to protect assets and increase privacy. Overseas banking - assets in gold or relatively stable currencies such as Swiss Francs - are also options.
And, advanced Freedom Technologists understand the real meaning of the noises and scribbles that emanate from the mouths and pens of value destroyers!
Q10. Three-Check Concept - Regarding the philosophy of the present payment method, where the buyer writes three checks. I understand how this procedure would be quick, easy and convenient for Build Freedom, but it would greatly inconvenience the buyer. Since the buyer is the one providing the dollars, shouldn't we be making it easy to buy rather than creating reasons for not buying? (My wife said she'd probably not buy anything from an outfit that required something as weird as writing three checks to three different entities for the same item - some folks don't even carry three checks around with them. Why are we creating obstacles for success? Seems that the customer should pay only Build Freedom and Build Freedom pays the Sponsor and Distributor. What service does the customer get from the Distributor and Sponsor anyway? They both work for Build Freedom, not for the buyer, yes? Therefore they should be paid by Build Freedom, not the buyer, yes? Did I misread something here? Please clarify so I can understand and support the system.
A10. Build Freedom was launched with a capital of about $250. Our "crude three-level" marketing method quickly induced four newsletters to advertise Build Freedom at their expense. This quickly brought us customers and active Distributors from the U.S.A., Canada, U.K., France, and Australia. It developed an income stream at little expense. Had we started with a more sophisticated multi-level marketing system, administered by computer to track commissions, it would have cost us tens of thousands of dollars - and the system may not have worked. The overall response rate to our "three-level" system has been spectacular. (Some say it's a two-level system because commission is paid only on two levels, and we should reverse the Sponsor and Distributor.) Of course, it has advantages and disadvantages. Some people are repelled because it's "weird" and inconvenient, some because it has too few levels. Others are attracted because they expect to get their money back and they perceive the system as less cheat-prone than most.
The Sponsor and Distributor work for themselves, the buyer, and Build Freedom. They deserve to be rewarded for their marketing effort and for enrolling other Distributors.
A Patron and Professional Liberator in Florida is developing a sophisticated Build Freedom marketing and compensation plan. He has more than 20 years experience in the business and has the expertise, computers, and personnel to administer the system. (He originally responded to the three-level advertising.) Anyone is free to design and implement competing marketing systems. No doubt our marketing will improve.
Q11. Assurances - I appreciate the simplicity of limiting the commissions to just the first two generations and anyhow, why should anyone receive a commission for the activities of one's Distributor's Distributors, after all, they're doing all the work, not the original Sponsor. However... why would any Distributor not choose to easily eliminate his Sponsor from the commission dep't and substitute a wife, brother, friend or pseudonym, dummy Distributor by simply selling a distributorship for that individual and letting that entity do the active prospecting and accumulation of large numbers of Sub-Distributors?
For example, I spend weeks jumping thru the hoops needed to meet the president of G.E., then spend much time and money impressing him with the wisdom of becoming my Distributor and introducing a few million G.E. employees, with the belief that those millions of customers will be funneling millions of dollars to me in return for my efforts and ingenuity. The president simply sells a Distributorship to his CEO and the CEO becomes the Distributor directly above the millions of buyers and the president becomes the Sponsor. Build Freedom collects millions, the president and CEO collect millions and I collect $24. Yes? Or am I missing something?
If I'm understanding the system correctly and it's that simple to transfer commissions from one's sponsor to a dummy Sub-distributor, then it becomes a dis-incentive to convert customers to Distributors and cut you out of the biz? So Build Freedom becomes a network of direct Distributors only, no real Sponsors. Is that the plan and desired result?
A11. If you believe the Sponsor doesn't deserve payment for sales by his Distributors, then the perceived problem disappears. I'm pretty certain that so far nobody has set up a dummy distributorship. Nothing in our marketing system prevents this. The best way to handle the perceived problem is probably for you to make a gentleman's agreement with the president of G.E. to not set up a dummy distributorship. I would also be happy to work with you at developing a marketing system you prefer.
Q12. Capital Units - How does one buy the capital units of Build Freedom Holdings? You've got a winner here, I wouldn't mind helping it in turn for being helped myself. Do capital units procure a share of all that dough that the incoming checks to Build Freedom represents? And again, with capital unit offerings, how to keep "profits" out of the hands of president Clinton and her husband?
A12. Build Freedom Holdings is a real free-enterprise "public" company. It is a "Build Freedom Trust" established according to the Code and Rules of Build Freedom. Its unit of account is the gram of gold. As soon as the company is sufficiently profitable and the Trustees decide it appropriate, dividends will be paid to capital unit owners in grams of gold. Each capital unit represents a share of the company and its profits. Within a few months a listing will be sought on the Free Market Share Exchange in California (a real free-enterprise institution). I hope other entrepreneurs will use Build Freedom Holdings as a model to establish their own free-enterprise companies. Build Freedom Holdings is already self-financing and we don't seek investors. Nevertheless, additional investment could be utilized to increase our efficiency (additional computer equipment) and accelerate our growth, particularly by expanding our marketing efforts.

"Your Build Freedom concept continues to excite me more than any idea in several years (and I've been very excited about many ideas lately!) I'm proceeding with implementing the Build Freedom concepts in several directions at once:

Dr. Long's Approach
I believe Dr. Long's approach could be instructive to all Build Freedom Distributors. First, he thought a great deal about Build Freedom. He asked questions to clarify some issues. He critically examined the Build Freedom concept for aspects that might make it difficult to sell. He challenged the weaknesses he found, particularly the "country" concept. When he found the initial answer unsatisfactory, he persisted with his challenge.
Dr. Long also thought about who he could market Build Freedom to. He examined his market. He starts off with people he already has relationships with. He's preparing covering letters he'll send them to accompany the Build Freedom flyers.
His initial mailings will be tests to learn from in order to improve future efforts.
Note the power of relationship. It is much easier to sell to people you already have a relationship with. If you don't have a relationship with your prospects, you need to establish a relationship.
Note also that Dr. Long is preparing personal letters to send to his prospects. The personal touch is very important and powerful. Thank you, Dr. Long.
