The IRS along with the courts, have taken over $1 million, I have sold one home, truck, a home belonging to my daughter, am in the process of selling another all at bargain prices. All over a tax liability of $500,000, which the IRS allege is over $2 million. They put me in jail for 355 days, took all of our funds so we could not retain an attorney, thereby causing us to defend ourselves, with no knowledge of the law or IRS. In my first appearance in court, I was told by the federal judge that I had no rights in this court, also that I had no rights to an attorney. This is documented in court transcripts. I was kept in jail for 355 days.

They have a lien on my wages, I did not know I even owed them money. Tried to talk to them about payment plan, the lady was very ugly and told me I should have known I owed them.

After reading these IRS abuse reports it actually nauseates me. The news media needs to be flooded with these stories, these reports must constantly be made public so that the American public can react. Something has to be done, our system is in dire trouble. The IRS can put a honest, decent taxpayer in prison for a tax bill. The more I talk to other people the worse the stories get and everyone is afraid to do anything for fear of reprisal. If such stories were kept in the news limelight, maybe things would change...something needs to be done, not only for us but for our future and our children.

I cannot believe such evil. I cannot and will not understand how IRS can sit by and watch fellow Americans -- neighbors be tortured. Where's the faith and the freedom? It saddened me so to read these reports and yet it also pushed me to madness and compassion all rolled into one. The devastation that my fellow Americans go through in such hatred and selfish ways. I do believe people need to read these reports. They need to learn and to stand up for your neighbor and your family. Stand up for what's right. There's people in this world, including myself that didn't really know about such things until I came across this page. It needs to expand. It needs to known. It's a shame that we have to place these hard working souls up on a stand for all to see just because we're not informed and yet it's so brave of those that tell their story because if they hadn't, we'd be fools and our children would be fools. I don't think I could lay still in my grave knowing that our children are toys and slaves. It's time we all take compassion and strength and pass it on to those beside us. Thank you.

I had a business loss, the IRS has disallowed my loss and has repeatedly levied my paycheck for several years and has refused a face-to-face meeting to clear the matter up with me. Their response was to mail an inapplicable code and to state they were denying my request for a case-worker based on this inapplicable code. In addition, their employees are emotionally abusive. If you need specifics (years, dates, amounts of penalties, etc. Let me know and I will provide.)

My father's wife, whom he married in 88', owed the IRS back taxes, but just like the IRS they don't bother to inform you that you owe until years later. Now the amount of her taxes has grown to about $20,000. They garnished her wages and my father's. I am named after my father, I am the 2nd. So now the IRS is after me. They have sent notices to me saying that I owe them $7515. I have never owed the IRS. Try getting a hold of a live person at the IRS, much less one that will listen. They have now put a lien on my property, and I'm sure the hassle is just starting.

I was under an IRS audit for 3 years. They constantly had me bringing items to their offices and needless to say it was very frightening and disturbing. After spending tens of thousands of dollars I finally received a letter in the mail that they accepted my taxes as filed. However, at this point I had lost my business and nearing a nervous break down! Can I write off the money I spent defending myself -NO- Do they care that they drove me to the brink of considering taking my own life, fat chance!

The IRS is threatening to garnish my $6.25 per hour wage. Interest climbs faster than what I earn, at their rate of interest, the debt/tax can never be paid.

When I got out of the military, I got a letter saying that because of the additional manpower called back in for Desert Storm there would be a delay in getting the w-4 forms to us. The letter also said this letter is reason enough for an extension. Well, I never got my W-4. When I called the next year, they said it was my fault and that I had to pay any past due taxes with interest and penalties. I would like to set this straight, but all they do is scare me by telling me they will take everything I own. What started as a small problem, has now snowballed into a huge one.

My husband and I have had problems with the IRS since 1988 when we started our own Drywall Company, during that time things got bad due to the recession. At the time we filed bankruptcy. We owed around $26,000 in taxes. Since that time, the figure has gone up to over $256,000. During this time, we were intimidated into signing forms that we should not have signed -- this extended the amount of time the IRS had to collect this debt. The agent said that if we didn't sign them, he would immediately come after anything that we owned. We did make an offer in compromise which was turned down. We then entered into a payment arrangement, of course, the debt will never be paid off. In 1996 we tried going into business again, the same agent got a hold of our account and started levy proceedings against all of our builders. When we tried to set up arrangements to pay the outstanding taxes, he said "no way, I haven't forgotten about you hiring a lawyer the last time". He just won't work with us at all. He has made our life a living hell. We never know what he will do next. My Husband's and my health are suffering because of this Revenue Officer.
